Yearly Roundup

This past year saw some big changes for The Green Medium. We finally reached our goal of 50 writers, we changed our site design and we started our Emerald Foundation commissioned blog series, The EcoHero Series. But in the midst of all that change, our goals and passions stayed the same: to engage youth in becoming more environmentally conscious and considering the power of their impact on our planet. We're grateful for the writers who took a chance, even when they weren't sure they had anything to contribute. We're grateful for the opportunities that we've been given and the people that believed in our work. We're immensely proud of the work that has been done on the site and we're excited for what 2018 will bring in terms of new content, new writers and more growth.

But before all of that, we want to take a moment to highlight some of the amazing content we've shared in 2017. There was so much good stuff and it was hard to pick out just a few to highlight, but here are some that stood out to us.Share your own favourites in the comments below!

The Power of Community Solar
"Not only is this article well-written but it talks about how communities can come come together to help protect the earth, in this case through installing solar panels. What's not to like?" ~ Matt Gwozd

Cities: Forces for environmental degradation or positive environmental action?
"Having a complete understanding of the negative environmental impact caused by cities is the first step to finding successful solutions. Kaelin's article on the negative impacts of cities is both insightful and informative, and made me think about the ways in which city development is an environmental issue." ~ A.A

The Paris Agreement Beyond Trump
"This is a well done article on one of the most important climate change agreements ever made. It is highly informative, optimistic and a quick read." ~ E.G.

Beef
"Alice's art piece on the Alberta beef industry was really compelling, as was the accompanying essay in which she takes a deeper look at the problems caused by the industry and how individual lifestyle changes can make an impact. It's a really powerful read." ~ A.A.

H&M's New Leaf
"I liked that this article focused on a big corporation seemingly trying to make a difference. It focuses on H&M's new environmental efforts and on their promises to pay better wages and to ensure better working conditions." ~ M.G.
